For the last 10 years, Emo Mawk, Kyle the Machine, The Corporate Homo and the DFG have been terrorising the South African music scene and spreading their crazy party music across the ocean on two and a half Europe tours. More often than not, Half Price is criticized about their liberal views. The fundamental band philosophy can be summarised as: Embrace your vulgarity! Be filthy but intelligent! The general feeling behind this is that people in this day and age are scared of not being entirely politically correct and are compromising themselves as free thinking individuals. Half Price on the other hand are proud of being 90% politically incorrect and 10% politically incompetent.
What is perhaps surprising to some is the fact that these 4 hedonistic individuals have managed to produced 4 excellent albums and continue to write excellent songs and impress audiences at their absolutely crazy live shows. If you have not heard Half Price before listen to some of their songs here and get your lazy ass down to one of their shows!!!
BAND MEMBERS:
The Corporate HOMO - Guitar and vocals: Homo Pete is a hardworking man in the notorious South African coal mines. He usually works 12 hour shift six days a week but as the pay for his job is so lousy, he needs to have a side job as a plumber. He is truly gifted in this profession, and leaves every customer satisfied. No complaints ever received. Thanks to all the physical labour the homo has an extremely well built body. Many a sexually deprived housewife has not been able to resist him when he comes around to clean the pipes.
The DFG - Bass and vocals: The Dirty Fucking German Sex Tourist is on extended leave in south Africa, he spends his days roaming the beaches, and the nights roaming the nightclubs, always on the lookout for a new sexual partner. Not very attractive but his German charm and Euros get him laid more often then not. He is also not afraid of paying for a service when the hunt is not successful. The dfg will try anything. He spent his time in Germany producing pornographic movies, sex is his business, sex is his pleasure. If you want to experience a night of fun and fornication this tourist is your man (but don’t expect a phone call or even for him to remember you’re the name the next day)
Emo MAWK - Guitar and vocals: Mowk the love guru. Is a master of the Kama Sutra and other ancient and modern arts of lovemaking. He general spends his days furthering his studies in theory as well as in practice. In the evening his all female followers/pupils gather around him, he is a master of many an instrument (guitar, bongo drums, penny whistle, you name it) which he has wisely incorporated into his meditation rituals to get his ladies in mood. After the nightly meditation ritual he proceeds by teaching his followers a new lesson for the day. Mawk is a peace loving individual who enjoys the finer things in life, the arts, good wine, cheese and women, beautiful women, but do not piss him off he has been seen throwing a mean punch.
The MACHINE - Drums: Kyle the machine is a ruthless business man. No one is to sure what business exactly Kyle is in but he assures us most of it is legitimate. He knows everyone that is someone and can be described as a real go getter. Whatever he wants he gets. He is married to a beautiful young wife that absolutely hates him (she’s just in it for the money) he likes to watch the rugby and braai with his mates on the weekend. He has a lovely mistress (perhaps two) that he visits when he works late and sometimes takes to his holiday house on the west coast.
