With the release of their new single, Campus Girl, recorded at Dockyard Studios by luminaries like Matt Allison, Schalk van der Merwe (production), SAMA winner Dave Langemann (mixing) and Tim Lengfeld (mastering), the future is indeed looking bright for Chasing Friday. Guitarist Adrian James Gregory and bassist Nico Mouissie had a deep love for music and were eager to form a band but there was one thing stopping them: they needed practice space. Little did they know that Andrew ‘Mule’ Mellish was just as eager to form a band. Three months after hooking up and creating music together, all they needed was a vocalist. They decided on recruiting an old school friend, Phill Black, an experienced front man, to join the trio, and a week later they essentially were Chasing Friday. November 2008 saw a change in the line-up. Adrian decided to focus on his studies, and Brendon Hull replaced him as guitarist. Six months later, the band competed in the Cuervo Battle of the Bands, respectably placing in the top 5 out of 16 bands. In their second Cuervo Battle of the Bands outing, they finished in an impressive second place, as well as being the only band to play in both competitions. The band then went on to compete in the Western Cape leg of the Radio Broadcast Facilities (RBF) Emerging Sounds competition and won, going on to perform in Johannesburg for the national finals. Chasing Friday, one of the most entertaining and energetic live acts in SA, has played with the likes of Stealing Love Jones, Bed on Bricks, Taxi Violence, Ryno Velvet, Alan Funk and Lara Frances. Chasing Friday is actively involved in a number of charitable initiatives such as The Little Hearts Music Festival at the V&A Waterfront and Animals Rock Charity Festival.
