Artists Davy Sicard (Reunion Island) and Nibs Van der Spuy (South Africa) both bear the legacy of a ‘melting pot’ of cultures. These two ambassadors of the music of Reunion Island and South Africa met at a festival, five years ago, and, finally, the time has come for them to meet and exchange both personally and artistically.
Both Sicard and Van der Spuy share the same vision: ‘uniting’ people by bringing to the public a multicultural music that transcends borders and genres: folk, blues, jazz, African music, Indian music…

The melodies carried by texts tinted with nostalgia for their country sound like high praise to the African and Reunionese cultures. Van der Spuy’s virtuosity with his guitar blends with the traditional rhythms of kayamb and roulér [percussions from Reunion Island], marking the beginning of a unique and original collaboration that will continue on the stages of Reunion Island in 2013, as Van der Spuy will go overseas for another residency.

Davy Sicard will arrive in Durban on 15 June 2012, for an artistic residency with guitarist Nibs Van der Spuy. The residency will be followed by a tour in South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland. This project, supported by many sponsors and partners - the French Embassy, the Alliances Françaises in South Africa network, Ethekwini Municipality, France Volontaires, the Région Réunion and many more - shows the willingness to make two international artists work together, carrying within themselves a genuine musical and cultural identity, and to create a strong and lasting connection between two cultures, two countries, two musical worlds ... This is the spirit of creation that maintains a people and its culture alive.
