Adding to the increasingly diverse breed of fresh and musically interesting bands coming out of Cape Town circa sunset 2007, the New Loud Rockets have exploded onto the scene in a colour burst of tuneful, youthful indie rock antics that has many adherents of the hip set hailing them as the next big things to dance to.
The energetic five-piece have been priming their fuses in and around the local music scene ever since marking their debut appearance back in October 2006 whilst sharing the stage with then ruling Indie scene creatives The Wild Eyes, whilst carefully honing their mantra of ‘just have a party!’ to being more than just a call to action on their particular brand of indie-inspired hedonism. These days you’re likely to find New Loud Rockets keeping company with such highly heralded, South African swingers as Taxi Violence, Ashtray Electric, Kidofdoom and Eat This, Horse. This band is on the cusp of some serious indie domination!

The sounds of New Loud Rockets illicit mild to strong doses of dance, with their 80’s disco-electro and smatterings of Nu-Jazz unashamedly straddling classic indie idols of yore influencers a la The Smiths, Joy Division and The Velvet Underground whilst keeping a keen to more contemporary acts such as The Strokes, Kings of Leon and Interpol, and that’s where the name-calling stops as New Loud Rockets are distinctly their own creation, preferring to offer us a life-view through the looking glass of five artful and academically enquiring minds (all of the ‘Rockets’ are currently studying at local universities; Law, Film, Design and Dentistry, guitarist Stevie Huson having just recently matriculated!)

In November 2007 New Loud Rockets released their debut EP; five tracks of hi-octane rocket fuel entitled ‘Let’s Play House’ (recorded at Rockitdog Studios, produced by Andrew Loubser of Slingshot Productions), featuring the fan favourite ‘ Bleeding In a Cab’ (incidentally – the first song they also ever wrote together!)

The ‘Rocket Boys’ (as they are affectionately known) are Johnny ‘Sunshine’ Seth on vocals, Jadan McCullough on guitar, Dave Huson on Bass, Phil Erasmus on Drums and Stevie Huson (Dave’s younger brother) on guitar.
